My Perfect Day In North Illawarra: interior Design Inspiration from a Local

Danielle Goodall • January 23, 2026

If you ever want to understand why I love living where I live, this day sums it up perfectly. Nothing rushed, nothing over-planned — just good coffee, salty air, a bit of retail therapy, and places that feel familiar in the best way.

Coffee first. Always.

The day starts exactly where it should: coffee in hand from Earth Walker & Co. It’s my grounding ritual — a moment to stand still before the day unfolds. skim latte, no sugar (obviously), and that feeling that the day already has potential before it’s even begun.

Salt, sun, and slowing down

Next stop is Coalcliff Rock Pool. If it’s warm, I’m stretched out on the rocks soaking up the sun. If it’s really hot, I’ll brave a quick dip — refreshing, shocking, and exactly what’s needed. There’s something about this spot that instantly resets my nervous system. No phone. Just waves, heat, and time moving slower.

A wander with a view

From there, a gentle stroll along Sea Cliff Bridge. It never gets old. The ocean on one side, escarpment on the other, and that quiet reminder that beauty doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s one of those places that clears your head without you even trying.

Thirroul, but make it intentional

Then comes one of my favourite parts of the day: shopping in Thirroul — and not the frantic kind.

  • Few & Far for beautifully curated pieces that feel thoughtful and layered
  • Luca Luna for fashion that feels effortless but considered
  • Wombat Antiques for treasure hunting — the kind where you don’t need anything, but always find something

This is the type of shopping that feeds creativity rather than drains it.

Bunnings (with realistic expectations)

No perfect day is complete without a Bunnings Warehouse Bellambi visit. The kids hit the playground, I wander the garden section convincing myself this plant will survive. It usually won’t. But hope springs eternal.

One more coffee, because why not

By now, another caffeine hit feels earned. The Fitz Cafe is the stop — casual, comforting, and exactly right for that mid-afternoon lull where you want to sit for five more minutes than planned.

Ending the day the right way

We finish at Wombarra Bowling Club. Cheap wine, a good old-fashioned bowlo feed, kids running around, and that relaxed exhale that only comes when the day has been full but not exhausting.

Then it’s back home to Helensburgh — sun-tired, salt-kissed, and grateful.

Before I had kids, my idea of a beautifully designed home was one where every corner had its moment. The cushions were fluffed just so, the coffee table was styled to the millimetre, and you could walk through the space without seeing a single toy, sock or rogue half-eaten cracker. I genuinely loved it. My home was cur

When it comes to interior design, one of the most crucial—but often overlooked—elements is finish. Whether it’s the soft, velvety look of matte paint or the sleek, reflective surface of a gloss finish, the choices you make about the finishes in your home can greatly influence the mood, energy, and aesthetic of a space.
